The following list details key community-based organization providing guidance to ethnic/minority elderly and or caregivers within Montgomery Country.
Subsidized Housing
This site provides a general guide for locating multifamily units that serve people with disabilities and the elderly.
Information is provided in the form of state-specific lists, and includes important information, such as contact information, who can occupy the units, the bedroom sizes and date that the units were last surveyed.
While many of these units may have long waiting lists or be unavailable, the information can act as an important starting point for finding a unit.
Vida Senior Centers
Vida Senior Centers is a Latino-focused non-profit organization with an emphasis on providing services and meeting the needs of seniors in Washington DC. To achieve this, Vida provides a range of services in the areas of wellness, counseling, community support and in-home services.
Through its services, Vida cares for upwards of 700 low-income elderly, supporting them in a range of ways and giving them a place to socialize and feel supported.
Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program (SPDAP)
SPDAP is a subsidy program that offers financial support to Maryland residents with moderate income levels who have a prescription drug plan and are eligible for Medicare.
To join the program, individuals must also prove their residency in Maryland for six months or more and have income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Long-term Care in Maryland
This site allows you to search for services located within Maryland and its counties. These services include those provided by adult day care, assisted living, home health, hospice and nursing homes. The site provides the physical locations of different sources of care, including information about what they offer, costs and other important factors.
AARP Foundation TAX-AIDE PROGRAM
This program is volunteer-run and offers tax assistance and a tax preparation service. From late January to April 15 each year, visitors can use a locator to determine the nearest sties to them that offer this service. The content on the site is also offered in both English and Spanish.
Alzheimer’s Association CareSource
This site offers a range of support and resources for individuals acting as caregivers for Alzheimer’s patients. This includes a wealth of information about how to care for the patient and also how to take care of yourself, including a range of online tools to support caregivers.
Additionally, the site also offers a way for individuals to stay connected to others in a similar situation and to find peer support.
Answers for the Aging
Answers for the Aging is a phoneline that provides guidance, information and referrals about issues related to senior life. The center is open from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday and messages can be left for the staff when the center isn’t open. Either caregivers or older adults can call for the information they need.
Eldercare Locator
This site offers the ability to search for services for elderly, either by physical location or by topic.
When searching by physical location, the information presented includes physical contact numbers, locations and website addresses for resources. When searching by topic, a range of information is given, including publications, websites and the ability to further refine by physical location.
Maryland Access Point, Maryland Department of Aging
This site acts as a gateway for information and assistance for people with disabilities and older adults. The site allows people to find information on a range of different needs and services, and also to search for services in their physical location. Some of the topics that the site covers include care options, caregiver resources, help with paying for services and creating a care record.
Maryland Resources, Family Caregiver Alliance
The Family Care Navigator on this site provides information about services and support including, disease-specific organizations, government disability and health programs, resources on living arrangements and legal help and advocacy.
Information is organized into eight key service types and the entries can be searched based on service type or physical location. Entries for different services include information like who is eligible, contact information and a brief description of the service.
Medicare
The Medicare website contains a large amount of information, including how to enroll and understand your benefits. The site offers resources for caregivers and older adults, as well as tools to find doctors, hospitals and providers. The site also has up-to-date news and can help people stay on top of any changes to their Medicare.
Resource Locator, Medicare.gov
This part of the Medicare site allows people to compare different hospitals, doctors, plans, suppliers and other providers. A range of information is included for comparison, such as measures of quality, results of health inspections and what insurance they take.
Additionally, the site allows people to make a detailed comparison of three resources at a time, making the process of finding the best resource much easier.
Retirement Benefits, Social Security
This part of the official Social Security website hosts an online application form for retirement benefits as well as the ability to monitor the status of an application.
The site also offers a range of information about retirement and the benefits for the retiree and for their spouse.
There are also links to a range of publications on retirement, many of which are also offered in Spanish and some in other languages as well.
Search for Respite, ARCH National Respite Network
This service gives people the ability to search for respite care providers located within their state and/or their local area. The site also provides information about possible sources of funding and eligibility information within each state in relation to respite care. The database contains physical locations of the care providers as well as contact information.
Senior Housing Finder, Alzheimer’s Association
This site offers comprehensive information about resources, services and community programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, as well as their caregivers.
The resources on the site focus on five key areas: care at home, community services, medical services, housing options, and Alzheimer’s Association events and programs.
The site allows the information to be searched by name or location, and provides contact information, as well as dates and times (where appropriate) and other relevant information.
